Terms of Service

Last updated: 25 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and ByteBloom Limited about your use of ByteBloom Compliance at compliance.bytebloom.tech (the "service"). Please read them before you create an account. You can save or print this page.

Please read clause 3 in particular. The service gives you an estimate. It is not tax advice.

1. Who we are

1.1 The service is provided by ByteBloom Limited ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales with company number 12119259. Our registered office is 341 Rayners Lane, Pinner, Greater London, England, HA5 5EN.

1.2 You can contact us by email at hello@bytebloom.tech.

1.3 ByteBloom Limited is the only business that provides the service. No other business that uses the ByteBloom name is a party to these terms.

2. The service

2.1 The service helps you keep a record of your time in the UK. It counts the midnights you spend in the UK in each UK tax year (6 April to 5 April), using the trips and flights you record. It then shows an estimate of your position under the UK Statutory Residence Test, based on your own answers about your ties to the UK.

2.2 The service is free. If we ever want to charge for it, we will ask you first. You will never be charged without your agreement.

2.3 The service is available by invitation only. It is for your own personal use. It is not for use in a business or to advise other people.

2.4 The service is new, and some parts may not work as expected. We may change it to improve it, fix problems, keep it secure or reflect changes in the law. If a change makes the service significantly less useful to you, we will tell you, and you can close your account (clause 8).

3. An estimate, not tax advice

3.1 The service is a record-keeping tool that gives an estimate. It is not tax, legal or financial advice. It does not replace advice from a qualified tax adviser.

3.2 The service does not apply every part of the Statutory Residence Test. In particular, it does not apply:

  • the full-time work tests (the third automatic overseas test and the third automatic UK test);
  • the only-home test (the second automatic UK test);
  • split-year treatment;
  • exceptional circumstances;
  • the rules on transit days, or the counting of work days;
  • the finer points of the deeming rule, beyond its basic 30-day threshold;
  • tax treaties and their tie-breaker rules; or
  • the rules of any other country.

3.3 Any of these can change the answer. For example, the only-home test or a full-time work test can decide your residence status whatever your day count.

3.4 Your ties are your own answers. The service does not check them. Results are only as accurate as the trips, flights and answers you record. Flights found in your email can be missing or wrong, so please check them.

3.5 The law and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) guidance can change. The service may not reflect a change straight away.

3.6 You are responsible for your own tax affairs. This includes deciding your residence status, keeping your own records of your travel (such as boarding passes and booking confirmations), and what you tell HMRC or any other authority. Before you rely on a result, for example to plan a trip or complete a tax return, please check it with a qualified tax adviser. HMRC's guidance on the test (RDR3) is on gov.uk.

4. Your account

4.1 To create an account, you must be 18 or over and have been invited by us.

4.2 Your account is for you alone. Keep your password secure and don't share your account or your invite link. Tell us straight away at hello@bytebloom.tech if you think someone else has used your account.

4.3 Please keep the information you give us accurate and up to date.

4.4 Only add information about other people, for example in a note, if you are entitled to.

5. Connecting Gmail

5.1 Connecting a Gmail mailbox is optional. The service works without one.

5.2 If you connect a mailbox, you give the service read-only access to it. The service uses that access only to find flight details in your travel emails, as our Privacy Notice explains. It never sends, changes or deletes anything in your mailbox.

5.3 Only connect a mailbox that is yours. If it is a work or school mailbox, make sure your organisation allows it.

5.4 Google has not reviewed the service, so Google shows a warning before you connect. Your Google account is also covered by Google's own terms. You can disconnect at any time on the Mailboxes page or in your Google Account.

6. Using the service fairly

You must not:

  • try to access accounts or data that aren't yours;
  • interfere with, probe, test or overload the service or its security;
  • copy, reverse engineer or resell the service, except where the law allows you to;
  • let anyone else use your account or invite link; or
  • use the service for anything unlawful.

7. Your information and our software

7.1 You own the information you put into the service. You allow us to store and use it only to provide the service to you, as our Privacy Notice explains.

7.2 We, or our licensors, own the service and its software, design and content. You may use them for your own personal use under these terms.

8. Ending or suspending your use

8.1 You can stop using the service at any time. You can close your account yourself from the account menu (Close my account): we delete your information straight away and email you to confirm. You can also ask us to close it by emailing hello@bytebloom.tech. If you ask, we will send you a copy of your information first.

8.2 We may suspend or close your account straight away if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we need to for security or legal reasons. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why.

8.3 We may stop providing the service, or close your account for another reason, by giving you at least 30 days' notice by email. If you ask before then, we will send you a copy of your information.

9. Our responsibility to you

9.1 We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill.

9.2 Because the service is free and new, we can't promise that it will always be available or free from errors. We will try to fix problems we know about within a reasonable time.

9.3 We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it is obvious that it will happen, or if we and you both knew it might happen when you started using the service. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.

9.4 The service is for personal use only. We are not responsible for business losses, such as lost profit or lost business opportunities.

9.5 We are not responsible for:

(a) loss caused by information you gave us being wrong or incomplete;

(b) any tax, interest or penalty you would have had to pay anyway, because what you owe depends on the law and your circumstances, not on the service; or

(c) delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control. If this happens, we will tell you and try to limit the effect.

9.6 If digital content we provide damages your device or other digital content because we did not use reasonable care and skill, we will either repair the damage or compensate you.

9.7 Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law does not allow us to limit or exclude. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

10. Changes to these terms

10.1 We may update these terms to reflect changes to the service, to the law or to how we run the service, or to make them clearer.

10.2 If a change could affect you, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. We may give shorter notice if the law or a security need requires it.

10.3 If you don't agree with a change, you can close your account before it takes effect (clause 8.1). If you keep using the service after that date, the updated terms apply.

11. How the agreement is made

11.1 You create an account by opening the invite link we email you, entering your name, choosing a password and selecting Create account. You can check and correct what you have typed before you select it. The agreement starts when your account is created.

11.2 These terms are available in English only.

11.3 We don't keep a separate copy of these terms for each user. The current version is always at compliance.bytebloom.tech/terms. We keep earlier versions and will send you a copy on request.

12. Other terms

12.1 We may transfer this agreement to another organisation. We will tell you first, and you can close your account if you are unhappy. You may not transfer this agreement to anyone else.

12.2 Nobody else has any rights under these terms.

12.3 If a court decides that part of these terms is invalid, the rest still applies.

12.4 If we don't enforce one of these terms straight away, we can still enforce it later.

13. Problems and disputes

13.1 If something goes wrong, please email hello@bytebloom.tech first so we can try to put it right.

13.2 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.

13.3 If you live outside the UK, you keep any protection that the consumer law of your country gives you.
